The Consequence of Voting

I saw a video on Instagram of some dude with a beard holding an axe, criticizing anyone celebrating the sweeping victory by democrats as foolish, because nothing changes, no matter who is in power.

My response to people who say it doesn’t matter which party is in control is to look at what changed when Trump was swept into power in 2024:

  • Armed and masked federal agents swarmed American cities, terrorized immigrant communities, and murdered citizens and immigrants in the streets.
  • Skyrocketing healthcare costs, with millions of Americans unable to pay their premiums, because the president wanted to give tax breaks to billionaires and corporations.
  • Skyrocketing fuel costs from the President’s unilateral decision to launch a war against Iran.
  • A deeply divided nation because of the unending barrage of lies and hateful rhetoric aimed at the immigrant and marginalized communities.
  • Deadly outbreaks of measles and foodborne illnesses because the President put a partisan, charlatan hack, with no background in science, in charge of HHS.

Voting matters because the people we elect make decisions and implement policies that affect us.

Another way to put it is “elections have consequences.”

Two years ago, America voted an autocratic, narcissistic, pedophile to lead our nation because he promised to “Make America Great Again.” They also voted for representatives in the Senate and House who were OK with abandoning their constitutional responsibility to check executive overreach and to let the President do whatever the fuck he wanted.

The consequences of the 2024 election can be calculated in terrified communities, dead protesters, packed detention centers, children dying of preventable diseases, higher costs FOR EVERY FUCKING THING, and broken relationships around the globe.

Don’t tell me that it doesn’t matter who runs the government.

Americans haven’t been living under a rock for the last two years – we’ve seen the consequences of electing a power-hungry president with no moral compass and a feckless Congress that refused to check him.

On November 3rd, 2026, we said fuck that and voted accordingly.

My Paper, My Words is a collection of essays, stories, and poems that reflect the challenges of a middle-class husband and father trying to navigate a rapidly changing political, religious, and technological landscape of post-911 America.

Also, check out my AI music project, Sapient Rain, a human–AI musical collaboration. Sapient Rain’s music blends political fire, surreal storytelling, and nostalgic autobiography, delivered through lyrics that read more like literary vignettes than conventional songcraft.
