“Reilly’s faith ultimately appears to be in democratic institutions and collective action rather than in strong leaders of any kind. The song’s central message seems to be that fear, corruption, and spectacle eventually give way to accountability when citizens show up and vote.”
Lyrics for Midterminal Blues
The prince of pomp
sings Helter Skelter
He’s painting slogans on a drone
the Pervy king
stews in his shelter
fomenting discord
from his phone
The ballroom lights
begin to flicker
a plaster crack
snakes up the wall
bibles stacked
on crates of liquor
the queen of heartless
in her shawl
Arming drones from in the bunker
the Pervy King has locked the door
false alarms cause him to hunker
with rats and roaches on the floor
The jack of spades
yells at the joker
he body-shames him at the door
he stokes the fire
with a poker
and sweeps the ashes off the floor
The Pervy king
calls in coordinates
he longs for golf
and Stormy days
he hurls insults
at subordinates
while stomping on
his feet of clay
Arming drones from in the bunker
the Pervy King has locked the door
false alarms cause him to hunker
with rats and roaches on the floor
The growing voices
of the unheard
are easy targets
in the street
the stark choices
are as unblurred
as the truth from blind deceit
They pin their hopes
on voter lines
and elections
free and fair
they look to bend
that arc of justice
towards a truth that can be shared
Arming drones from in the bunker
the Pervy King has locked the door
false alarms cause him to hunker
with rats and roaches on the floor
Sapient Rain is a human–AI musical collaboration created by writer/lyricist Geoffrey Reilly working together with the AI music engine Suno.
Sapient Rain’s music blends political fire, surreal storytelling, and nostalgic autobiography, delivered through lyrics that read more like literary vignettes than conventional songcraft. Sapient Rain’s growing catalog is thematically dense, with each track functioning as a miniature narrative or social critique.
